ANNAPOLIS, Md. - American University senior Jen Baclawski (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) won the 5000m run and junior Whitney McNees (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) won the mile run Saturday at a meet with Bowie State, William & Mary, Virginia Commonwealth, Robert Morris and Navy, hosted by the Midshipmen.
Baclawski took the victory in a time of 18:16.47, a dominating effort in which she completed the course nearly 31 seconds quicker than the runner-up. McNees finished the mile in 5:15.00, outlegging Navy's Caitlin Harrington by five seconds.
Meanwhile, freshman Kelley Taylor (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) in the 800m dash in a time of 2:23.60. Junior Megan Simpson (Highland Lakes, N.J./Vernon Township) followed closely behind, with a time of 2:24.88.
As a team, American University finished in fifth place, with 43 points, despite sending just 12 athletes to the meet.
The Eagles return to action next Saturday, Jan. 24, when they travel to the Maryland/PVA Invitational.
