Junior Sean O'Brien will be making his second appearance at the NCAA Championships this week.

WASHINGTON - American junior Sean O'Brien will be making his second appearance at the NCAA Track and Field Championships Thursday in Baton Rouge, La. He will be running in the 1,500-meters where he earned All-America honors in 2001 after finishing 10th. Preliminaries will be run at 7:40 p.m. on May 30. The 1,500-meter final is on Saturday at 8:00 p.m.

The American junior automatically qualified for this year's championship by running a school record time of 3:41.29 at the Stanford Cardinal Qualifier. O'Brien currently holds the fourth fastest time in the NCAA this season and is the third seed in the race.

O'Brien is the Patriot League Indoor Champion in the 800-meters and the mile, where he holds the league record. He also ran on the indoor and outdoor Patriot League Champion 4x800-meter relay teams.

At the 2002 NCAA Championships, O'Brien will be attempting to become the first American athlete to earn multiple All-America honors since men's soccer player Michael Brady accomplished the feat in 1984-85.

The 2002 NCAA Track & Field Championships will be held at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La. This will be the fourth time that LSU has hosted the event. Live results from the meet can be found at LSU's website.
