Jen Baclawski won the 5,000-meters at the Metro Invitational.
EMMITSBURG, Md. - The American women's track and field team competed today at the Metro Invitational at Mount St. Mary's and returned to Washington with a first place finish and numerous personal best times and distances.
Jen Baclawski set the pace in the 5,000-meters, running 18:26.70. She won the event by 27 seconds. Heidi Fishpaw and Siobhan Uniacke finished fifth and sixth in the event running 19:26.39 and 19:45.50 respectively.
Whitney McNees ran the 1,500-meters in 5:04.29 and Erin Hickey continued to improve in the event, running a four second personal best of 5:07.30. In the 400-meters, Liz Krashes and Shondrea Horton both ran personal best times as they ran 1:04.16 and 1:05.53 respectively.
Damarah Rhymer ran the 100-meters for the first time this season and finished seventh in 13.65. Marissa Schoenfeld was close behind, running a personal best 13.90. The 4x400-meter relay ran the second fastest mark all-time, running 4:21.95.
In the field events, Leigh Sorkin improved on her personal best in the javelin throwing 81'10" while Megan McCoy threw the javelin for the first time in her career, throwing 55'8". Sorkin and McCoy also threw the discus at the meet as Sorkin placed sixth throwing 93'10" and McCoy improved her personal best throwing 86'10".
The Eagles return to action this week at the prestigous Penn Relays before participating in the Patriot League Championships May 2-3 at Lehigh University.
