American University Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Releases 2007-08 Schedule

WASHINGTON - The American University swimming and diving teams released its schedule for the 2007-08 season Monday. This season's schedule is highlighted by 16 meets including two at Reeves Aquatic Center, the home of Eagle swimming and diving, and a trip to San Sebastian, Spain.
The Eagles' season kicks off on Sep. 29 with their annual Alumni Red/Blue Meet. The competitive season begins the following week on Oct. 5, as American plays co-host to the Potomac Relay Invitational. Competing in the invitational are local rivals Georgetown, George Mason, George Washington, Mary Washington and Navy.
AU begins Patriot League competition Nov. 10 when it travels to Annapolis, Md., to take on Navy, Bucknell and Lafayette. The Navy men and women enter this season as the defending PL champions. The Bucknell men and women finished third and second respectively last season, and Lafayette finished seventh and sixth.
The Eagles will remain on the road in nonconference competition throughout the remainder of November and December. During this stretch the American swimmers and divers will make their annual trip to Spain, taking part in the XV Ciudad de San Sebastian.
American then returns home to the Reeves Aquatic Center on Jan. 18 to host Georgetown University. This day will also be recognized as Senior Day, celebrating the accomplishments of AU swimming and diving's graduating class.
The 2007-08 team season wraps up Feb. 21-23 at the PL Championships held at the US Naval Academy. There American will compete against the seven other PL teams to crown a conference champion. At last year's championship, held at Bucknell University in the Arthur D. Kinney Jr. Natatorium, Meghan Thiel (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) broke the pool record for the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 16:45.10. Kaitlin Moughty (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) also recorded a victory at last year's championship with a 200 backstroke time of 2:02.02.
