Senior Meghan Thiel earned her fourth straight First Team All-PL honor
 
 
AU Swimming and Diving Earn Five All-PL Selections

WASHINGTON - The American University men's and women's swimming and diving teams earned five selections to the 2008 All-Patriot League Teams with their performances at last week's PL Swimming and Diving Championships, conference officials announced Wednesday. Senior Meghan Thiel was named First Team All-PL for the fourth-consecutive year while seniors Joe Coronato and Dan Nagelberg, sophomore Matt Pelletier and freshman Dorothy Isaacs each earned their first All-PL selection.

Thiel was named to the All-PL First Team after scoring in three events at her final PL Championship Meet. Thiel first took to the pool in the 500 free and placed third with a finals time of 4:52.04. On the second day of competition Thiel placed fourth in the 200 free, finishing in 1:52.96. Thiel's final individual event and her best finish came on Day Three when she placed second in the 1650 free in a time of 16:43.42.

Freshman Isaacs joined Thiel on the women's All-PL First Team by way of two second-place finishes and a fourth-place finish. In her first career PL Championship event Isaacs placed second in the 50 free with a 23.96. In the event's qualifying heat Isaacs also placed second and set a new school record time of 23.79. Isaacs returned to the pool in the 100 breast on Day Two where she finished fourth and moved to fourth place on AU's all-time top-10 list with a time of 1:06.04. Isaacs swam to another second-place finish on the final day of competition, this time in the 100 free where she swam a time of 51.61 and overtook second place on AU's all-time list.
 

 

The men's team's Coronato and Nagelberg were named to the All-PL First Team, marking the first all-conference selection of their respective careers. Coronato first took to the pool in the 50 free on Day One where he earned eighth place on AU's top times list with a 21.20 in the qualifying heat and then placed eighth in the finals. Coronato returned to the pool on Day Two and swam a personal-best time of 1:41.43 in the 200 free to place fourth. Coronato again set a new personal record and finished fourth in the 100 free on the final day of competition with a time of 45.87 which also moved him into a tie for fifth place on AU's top-10.

Nagelberg advanced to his first career 200 IM finals on Day One and swam a new personal-best time of 1:53.11 for third place in the competition and 10th place on AU's career list. Nagelberg again posted a new personal record in the 400 IM the next day with a fifth-place time of 4:03.29. Nagelberg's final individual event came in the 1650 free where he set his third personal record of the meet and moved to eighth on AU's all-time top-10 by placing fourth in 16:05.83.

Sophomore Pelletier also earned the first All-PL selection of his career, being named to the second team for his second-place finish in the 100 back. Pelletier finished as the event's runner up in a new personal record time of 51.27 which moved him to seventh on AU's top-10 list. Pelletier also competed in the 50 free and 200 back at the PL Championships, earning a berth into the consolation finals of each. Pelletier finished 12th overall in the 50 free and 15th overall in the 200 back.
