AU Swimming & Diving Wrap Up Patriot League Championships

WASHINGTON - American University's swimming and diving teams finished the 2005 Patriot League Swimming & Diving Championship with junior Val Fomenko (Jouy-En-Josas, France/Espadon Develizy) bringing home the Male Swimmer of the Meet award and freshman Meghan Thiel (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) capturing Co-Female Swimmer of the Meet and Female Rookie ofthe Meet honors.
Thiel, broke her second record of the meet with a 16:45.70 time in the 1650 Free, setting meet, pool and AU records in the process. She set the PL mark in the 500 Free, earning an NCAA "B" time. She also set the new pool mark for the 200 Free earlier in the three-day event.
Fomenko finished up the final day with a second place finish in the 200 Back, with a time of 1:49.40, the second best time ever by an Eagle in that event. Fomenko won two events earlier in the meet, including setting the pool and championship record for the 100 Back on Friday.
Senior Cami Miller (Mission Hills, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) finished fourth in the 1650 with a mark of 17:18.26, the fifth best time in AU history. Sophomore Kaitlin Moughty (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) finished fourth in the 200 Back with a time of 2:05.60, which ranks sixth on the AU top-10 list. Alex Kinzler's (Apollo, Pa./Plum) time of 2:24.74 in the 200 Breast secured her a fifth place finish in the race and on the AU top-10. Erin Devlin (West Trenton, N.J./Ewing) finished seventh in the 200 Breast, with a time of 2:25.46, good enough for sixth among the AU top-10

Kevin Falkenstein (Westmont, N.J./Heddon Township) finished in third place in the 200 Back, finishing in a time of 1:49.45. Estebe Salgado's (San Sebastian, Spain/E.S. Usandizga) time of 1:52.83 earned him a sixth place finish in the 200 Fly in the race and in the AU record books.
The men's relay team in the 400 Free Relay finished in fifth, kicking in 28 points to the total team score, while the women's team finished seventh in the same event.
The AU men's team finished in fifth (324), while the women's team score of 317 put them at seventh.
