Several AU Men's and Women's Swimmers Compete at Navy Long Course Invitational on Sunday

WASHINGTON - Several members of the American University men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in the Navy Long Course Invitational on Sunday at Lejeune Hall, preparing themselves for the East Coast Athletic Conference Championships being held this year in Pittsburg, Pa., Feb. 28 through March 2.

Freshman Dorothy Isaacs, who took two second-place finishes at her first Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships this week, competed in three events for AU. Isaacs was one of two competitors in the 100 breast and defeated Sarah Duffy from Navy with a time of 1:20.32. Isaacs also took first in the 50 free, beating Bucknell's Lauren Russell with a 28.08 and was the only competitor in the 200 meter IM and finished in 2:32.50.

Sophomore Matt Pelletier took second place in Friday's 200 Back PL Championship and was back in action on Sunday, competing in the 50 free, 100 back and 100 fly. Pelletier finished first of four in the 100 fly with a 1:00.16, third of three in the 50 free with a 25.15 and fourth of four in the 100 back with a 1:02.52.

Other Eagles in action at the Navy Long Course Invite included seniors Melinda Gilbert, Taylor Smith and Meghan Thiel, sophomore Michael DiDonato and freshman Richard Driscoll.
 

 

The Eagles will be in action next at the ECAC Championship which will begin this Thursday, Feb. 28, in Pittsburgh, Pa. The three day event will wrap up on Saturday, March 2.
