AU Swimming and Diving Competes at Navy Invitational

WASHINGTON - The American University men's and women's swimming and diving teams were in action Saturday, traveling to Annapolis, Md., for the Navy Invitational at Lejeune Hall. The Eagles were led by seven top-five finishers in the non-team scoring meet.
Other teams competing at the Navy Invitational included No. 15/10 Virginia, Navy, Lafayette and Bucknell. The invite included 33 overall events and was swam in yards.
Six of AU's seven top-five finishes were recorded on the women's side. Freshman Eleanor Clay notched two of those finishes as she placed fourth in the 200 breast and fifth in the 100 back. Clay was beat out in the 100 back by classmate Morgan Haycock who placed fourth.
Kelsey Cardwell , Alison Katsigiannis and Meghan Thiel each posted fourth-place finishes as well. Cardwell was fourth in the 200 back, Katsigiannis in the 100 breast and Thiel in the 200 free.
The men's team was led by senior Joe Coronato who posted a fifth-place finish in the 100 free.
Saturday marked the final regular season meet of the year for the Eagles. Both the men's and women's teams will return to action on Feb. 21 for day one of the Patriot League Championships which will also take place at Lejeune Hall in Annapolis, Md.
