Joe Pascale has been hired to join the American University coaching staff in swimming and diving, the school announced recently.
Pascale is a local product, having coached with the Nation's Capital Swim Club and earning a spot on The Washington Post All-Met team as a local high school standout.
He was a member of two NCAA national championship teams at Auburn University, and competed at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials.
"I'm impressed by how together the team is here," said Pascale. "I like the atmosphere and the vibe of everybody in the program."
A sprint freestyler himself, Pascale expects to have an impact quickly on the student-athletes in the shorter races.
"I think I bring the ability to coach technique fairly well," he said. "I'm a big fan of teaching proper technique and getting our athletes to do things the right way every day so good technique becomes almost instinctive."
"Joe brings us the intensity and drive of a collegiate swimmer," says AU head coach Mark Davin. "He's already had an impact as he's worked with everybody on their starts."
