ANNAPOLIS, Md. – American University heads to the Naval Academy on Wednesday for the opening night of the Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships.
The championships will wind through four days of competition at LeJeune Hall, with the final relays and final ceremonies scheduled for Saturday evening.
On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, preliminary sessions begin at 10 a.m., with finals each day set for 6 p.m. Wednesday's program will include men's diving and some relays.
American finished eighth in the women's team standings and the men were ninth at last year's championships.
On the women's side, the Eagles have had strong performances from seniors Fiona Caulfield (diving) and Tori Haviland, along with a talented and deep freshman class. The Eagles have posted 24 marks so far this season that have made the all-time top-16 list at AU. Lily Koenig (backstroke) and Alex Feys (butterfly) have posted marks that sit among the top 10 heading into the championships.
Junior Scott Callander had a strong fall for the AU men, posting three outstanding marks at the U.S. Swimming Winter Nationals. He had a career-best 20.85 in the 50-yard freestyle and just missed the school record in the 100, going 48.77 to come within a tenth of the 20-year-old record.
