LEWISBURG, Pa. – After three weeks of hard training, the American University swimming and diving teams get an early look at some Patriot League competition this Saturday at noon when the Eagles travel to Bucknell for a quad meet with Lafayette and Navy.
American split a dual meet at Howard in mid-October and have been away from competition since that time. The Eagles are also preparing for George Mason's Patriot Invitational from Nov. 16 to 18, the biggest competition of the fall semester.
The AU women have had strong early seasons from its seniors and from some of their dozen freshmen.
Freshman Ellie Kight has won the 500 and 1,000 free races at each of the Eagles' first two dual meets, and Lily Koenig has the best mark of the season in both backstroke events. Koenig joins Abby Longstaff, Alex Feys, Natalie Hamlet and diver Anna Derrow as freshmen who have already cracked the all-time top-16 at AU.
On the men's side, junior Scott Callander is off to a hot start for the Eagles. He owns the best marks thus far in five events, including the sprint freestyles and both butterflys. Freshman Liam Riebling also has some dual-meet victories in the early season, owing the Eagles' best mark in the 500 free.
American's next home meet is on Jan. 13 when it hosts Georgetown and George Washington.
