Four Eagles Earn Double Wins at Howard Dual

WASHINGTON – Junior Scott Callander and freshman Liam Riebling were among the four American University swimmers and divers to win two individual events as the Eagles split a double-dual meet at Howard on Friday.

On the women's side, senior Tori Haviland and freshman Ellie Kight also won two individual events to lead AU to a 184-57 win. The Bison won the men's meet with a 134-102 score.

Callander went 21.78 in the 50-yard freestyle and came back with a 48.01 clocking in the 100 free. Both of those were the best swims of the early season by AU.

Riebling won the 200 free (1:48.09) and 200 butterfly (1:59.00) for the Eagles. Junior Sam Fromkin also earned a win for the Eagles on the men's side, going 2:01.21 to win the 200 backstroke.

Sophomore Ben Cook finished second in the 3-meter diving event, but moved into 15th on the Eagles' all-time list in the event with his total of 149.09.

Haviland won the 200 free in 1:57.85 and captured the 200 fly in 2:12.13. Kight repeated her double from last week's meet against Loyola Maryland, winning both the 500 free (5:19.03) and 1,000 free (10:53.09).

Other winners for the AU women included freshman Abby Longstaff (25.35, 50 free), sophomore Ryan Jolley (2:13.03, 200 IM), Alex Brosvik (54.00, 100 free) and Lily Koenig (2:08.53, 200 back). The Eagles earned 1-2-3 sweeps in five events.

The Eagles also won both boards in the diving competition with freshman Anna Derrow winning on 1-meter and senior Fiona Caulfield taking the high-board event.

American travels to UMBC on Thursday for a dual meet with the Retrievers.
