Watson Wins 100-Yard Backstroke at Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. — The American University men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed on Saturday afternoon at the Bucknell Invite in an unscored meet. 

The Eagles finished with 14 top five finishes and were led by Caylee Watson with the only first place finish in the 100-yard backstroke event. Watson touched the wall in 59.13. Watson also finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with Alyssa Colasurdo, Olivia Wons and Kennedy Elhajj in 1:41.98.  In her final event of the invite, Watson went third in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:11.73. 

Tori Haviland finished third in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:11.92. Haviland added to her successful day with a fourth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:58.49 performance. 

Shannon Exley came in third in the 100-yard freestyle event in 54.16.

The Eagles placed third in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:50.39. The team was comprised of Wons, Colasurdo, Watson and Exley. 

In diving, Fiona Caulfield placed second on the one-meter board with a score of 232.20 and third on the three-meter board with a 218.90. 

On the men's side, American took fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The group consisting of M. Scott Callander, Ben Mitchell, Giancarlo Payamps and Marzuq Khan finished in 1:30.42. 

In the 100-yard backstroke, Sam Fromkin took third in 55.82.  

Callander added a second place finish in the 200-butterfly in 1:55.57. He also finished fourth in the 100-butterfly in 52.12.

In the 200-yard backstroke, Payamps took fourth in 2:03.09. 

Ben Cook placed fifth on the one-meter diving board with a 136.95 and fifth on the three-meter board with a 129.50.

The Eagles will prepare for the Patriot League Championships, which will be held at Bucknell the weekend of Feb. 15-18.
