Watson Leads AU Women to Second-Place Finish in Season-Opener

WASHINGTON, D.C.Caylee Watson swam on three of American's four second-place relays to spark the Eagle women to a second-place tie in the team standings Friday at the Potomac Relay Invitational swimming meet at the Reeves Aquatic Center.

The meet opened the regular season for American and four other area schools.
 
The Eagle women scored 72 points in the meet, which was contested in an all-relays format. The men placed fifth, getting a second-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
 
George Mason won both the women's and men's team competitions, winning 16 of the 18 events.
 
Kennedy Elhajj, Emily Gill and Watson were second in the 3x100 backstroke relay for the Eagles.
 
Alyssa Colasurdo, Watson, Ryan Jolley and Olivia Wons were edged by the Patriots in the 4x100 individual medley relay by just 0.06 seconds.
 
Tori Haviland and Shannon Scovel were second in the 2x500 free relay, with Wons, Colasurdo, Watson and Shannon Exley going 1:41.56 to place second in the 200 free relay.
 
Scott Callander, Kilian Korth, Garrett Sooter and Julian Wainer went 7:15.59 in the men's 800 free relay to finish behind George Mason.
 
American travels to Loyola Maryland on Friday, Oct. 7 for a dual meet. The Eagles return home on Friday, Oct. 28 to play host to Howard.
