Lewisburg, Pa. – The American University swimming & diving teams were in action On Saturday its last competition before the Patriot League Championships. The Eagles traveled to the site of the 2015 conference meet, competing against several squads at the Bucknell Bison Invite. It was an unscored meet, but several performers showed good speed at the event.
American competed against numerous opponents including host Bucknell, fellow Patriot League schools Lafayette, Loyola (Md.) and Navy (women only) in addition to Seton Hall, Shippensburg, Towson and a partial Penn State squad.
Junior Paris Wood had one the best races of the day for the Eagles, taking the bronze in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.80.
Sophomore Caylee Watson finished eighth overall in the 200 individual medley, touching the wall in 2:13.41. She also placed ninth in the 50 free at 25.24
Victoria Haviland placed sixth in the 500 freestyle with a strong time of 5:14.05. She went on to look even more impressive in the 200 free, finishing third overall at 1:57.60.
On the men's side, senior Dylan Hall showed speed in the 100 back, finishing sixth overall at 55.10. He was just ahead of teammate Ross Honig who finished with a time of 56.40.
Another senior, Charlie Taffet added a seventh-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, completing the race in 1:02.46, holding off the eight-place finisher by two-tenths of a second.
The Eagles now have two and half weeks to train before the four-day 2015 Patriot League Championships beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
