WASHINGTON – The American University swimming & diving teams took to the pool for the first time in 2015, facing off against D.C. foe Georgetown in dual meet. The Eagles won several events but were edged 138-94 on the women's side and 139-87 for the men.
Sophomore Kilian Korth was victorious in the 200 backstroke, posting a time of 1:57.74, almost two seconds faster than the second-place finisher from Georgetown.
Classmate Shannon Scovel followed the win up with a victory of her own in the 500 freestyle, touching the wall in 5:24.79 while teammate Jess Kowal was right behind her for second place.
Rookie diver Fiona Caulfield scored a 236.7 on the three-meter board to win the event and earn nine team points for the Eagles.
Junior Ali Follman represented the upperclassmen for AU well, winning the 200 back with a time of 2:32.10.
Senior Charlie Taffet led the way for the American men with a victory in the 200 breaststroke, finishing in 2:15.92.
Next up for AU is a quad-meet at Patriot League foe Army. Fellow conference opponent Boston U. along with local rival George Mason will also make the trip up to West Point, N.Y. on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m.
