WASHINGTON – The American University swimming & diving teams are back in action this week at several different events. Five Eagles head north to the ECAC Winter Championships while senior Harrison Volaski goes to the US National Championships and Caylee Watson swims for the U.S. Virgin Islands at the FINA Short Course Worlds.
Watson swam today in Doha, Qatar, representing her home of the Virgin Islands. She entered the meet with a previous top time of 1:09.16 in the 100-meter backstroke, but shaved off nearly seven seconds at 1:02.22. That time converts to a 56.05 which would have set a new AU record had it been swam in yards.
Watson will also swim in the 100-meter butterfly on Saturday.
Volaksi heads to Greensboro, N.C. beginning on Thursday, Dec. 4 with action continuing until Saturday. The fourth-year swimmer will compete in the 100 backstroke as well as two other events yet to be determined.
The three-day ECAC Winter Championships take place on Long Island, N.Y., with several Eagles qualifying for the event. Kaitie Kudlac, Lena Mentyka, Paris Wood, Owen Dougherty and Kilian Korth will all be in action.
