Recap and Results
Senior Matt Pelletier recorded the seventh-best time in the 200 back in school history on the third and final day of the University of Virginia Invitational to lead the American University swimming team. Additionally, everyone on the Eagles' men's and women's squads in action on Saturday scored.
Pelletier swam a time of 1:52.17 in the preliminaries, which placed him second heading into the finals. That time set an unshaved lifetime-best. Later in the evening, he topped his morning swim by a full second (1:51.10), good for fourth place in the highly-competitive event and the seventh-fastest time in AU history.
In addition to Pelletier, freshman Ming Ong set a lifetime-best in the 200 breast (2:11.29), and sophomore Sean McNamara recorded an unshaved lifetime-best time in the 100 free (47.93). The 400 relay team of Pelletier, Ong, McNamara and Michael Greenberg placed fifth in 3:11.89.
In the women's competition, sophomore Anna Gooding earned a new lifetime-best time in the 1650 free (17:53.89). Junior Jess Ballance also set an unshaved lifetime-best mark with a 2:13.21 swim in the 200 fly. Additionally, junior Dory Isaacs placed eighth in the 100 free in 52.17, which would go down as the sixth-fastest time in school history (Isaacs, however, currently holds the school-record in the event with a time of 50.72).
