WASHINGTON - The American University Student-Athlete Support Program is excited to begin the second year of the Scholar-Athlete of the Month initiative. The award celebrates one male and one female student-athlete who is committed to academic success, has shown a dedication to academic improvement and growth, and/or is making a positive impact on the student-athlete community through the Life Skills program.

Junior Arianna Lopez (women's cross country, track) and sophomore Daniel Kidd (men's wrestling) were selected as the October honorees by the SASP staff.

Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month
Arianna Lopez, Junior
Women’s Cross Country & Track
Major: Biochemistry

“Arianna is an outstanding student who goes above and beyond the norm. As a biochemistry major, she has navigated a tough progression of classes so far and continued to excel, even turning in her best semester yet last spring. In addition to keeping up with her school work and being a strong contributor to the cross country and track team, Arianna has made amazing strides in her research efforts and still finds time to volunteer on a regular basis. She truly does it all!” – Spencer Bonahoom, Academic & Life Skills Counselor

Male Scholar-Athlete of the Month
Daniel Kidd, Sophomore
Men’s Wrestling
Major: Economics

“Daniel Kidd is an incredible student, and his grades speak for themselves. What impresses me most about Daniel is his work ethic and attention to detail toward his studies. He takes full ownership for every aspect of his performance in the class and on the mat. His ability to eliminate excuses and stay motivated is truly impressive. It is a privilege to work with Daniel!” – Spencer Bonahoom, Academic & Life Skills Counselor
