WASHINGTON - Junior Adriana Hooks (women's track & field) and sophomore Ben Cook (men's diving) have been selected as the Scholar-Athletes of the Month for January, the SASP staff announced on Thursday.

The monthly honor recognizes one male and one female student-athlete who is committed to academic success, has shown a dedication to academic improvement and growth, and/or is making a positive impact on the student-athlete community through the Life Skills program.

Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month
Adriana Hooks, Junior
Women's Cross Country, Track & Field
B.A., Anthropology

“Adriana was an easy choice for January's 'Scholar-Athlete of the Month.' Her work ethic toward her academics has improved with each passing semester, and it really showed in her results this fall. She earned a new 'PR' with her semester GPA, which was a major factor in helping her team achieve the highest single-semester GPA on record for AU Athletics. I am so proud of what Adriana has accomplished.” – Spencer Bonahoom, Academic and Life Skills Counselor

Male Scholar-Athlete of the Month
Ben Cook, Sophomore
Men's Diving
B.S., Psychology

“Ben has truly earned the honor of 'Scholar-Athlete of the Month' for January. In the fall, Ben made some changes to his approach to academics, put in the work, and earned his highest GPA to date as a result. I continue to be impressed by Ben as he carries this momentum with him into the spring semester! He is highly motivated and is making amazing strides personally, academically, and on the boards. I am so proud of Ben and can’t wait to see what this semester holds for him.” - Erin Saunders, Academic Support Counselor for Student-Athletes
