Meet the Director

Mark Metrinko made his professional debut in 1997 at the age of 15, performing at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Since then, Mark has built his entire career on performing and educating young musicians. In 2002, he joined the cast of Blast!, an Emmy and Tony Award winning production, as a cast member and trumpet soloist. With Blast!, Mark performed throughout the United States, Japan, and London's West End Theatre District.

In 2005, Mark became a member of the prestigious United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps. The only unit of its kind, the Fife and Drum Corps performs official military ceremonies and functions, as well as educational and entertaining shows around the world. Since joining the Fife and Drum Corps, Mark has performed in hundreds of venues, most notably at the White House for Queen Elizabeth II and at the Pearl Harbor Memorial in Hawaii.

Since 2001, Mark has been involved with the National Trumpet Competition, the largest single-instrument competition in the world. He is a member of the Artist Board, has performed with the Artist Faculty, is the Director of Media Relations, and is the Assistant Director of Operations.

Mark graduated magna cum laude from George Mason University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Music Education. During his time at GMU, he spent four seasons playing with the George Mason University Pep Band, including during their historic trip to the Final Four in 2006.

He has also taught the Kanto Gakuin Marching Band in Tokyo, Japan, at the Royal Military School of Music in London, England, and currently works with the W.T. Woodson Marching Band in Fairfax, Virginia. Along with directing the Screamin' Eagles Pep Band at American University, Mark maintains an active private trumpet studio. Mark lives with his wife, Brooke, in Kingstowne, Virginia.
