Tailgating Policies and Procedures Thank you for visiting American University and enjoying an exciting day of competition on our campus. Please see information below specific to the event you are visiting our campus for.
William I Jacobs Recreational Complex: Field Hockey and Women's Lacrosse The American University Field Hockey pre and post game tailgate location is designated in the grassy area between the William I Jacobs Recreational Complex and the Watkins Building. For guests needing to unload, please do so by using the access road between the Watkins Building and the Kreeger Building. After unloading, please immediately park your vehicle in a valid parking spot. (Campus Map) Visiting Field Hockey teams pre and post game tailgate location is designated in the grassy area of the parking lot overlooking the William I Jacobs Recreational Complex between the Hamilton Building and the Kreeger Building. (Campus Map) The American University Women's Lacrosse pre and post game tailgate location is designated in the grassy area of the parking lot overlooking the William I Jacobs Recreational Complex between the Hamilton Building and the Kreeger Building. After unloading, please immediately park your vehicle in a valid parking spot. (Campus Map) Visiting Women's Lacrosse teams pre and post game tailgate locations will have two tailgating options. One option will be on the scoreboard side of the fence near the sand volleyball courts adjacent to Jacobs Field. With this option, no vehicles of any kind are allowed past the bollards to unload any grills, tables, etc. All items must be carried down to the tailgating area. The second option is to use the parking lot adjacent to the Watkins building closest to the Child Development Center. (Campus Map) 1. No tables or chairs will be provided for home or visiting teams for tailgating. Both teams are expected to bring all the equipment they should need for their event. Trash cans will provided in your tailgating location for you to use. 2. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed at any American University Athletic venue per AU, Patriot League and NCAA policy. 3. Shower facilities for visiting teams will only be available for 60 minutes following the conclusion of the game. We ask that all teams shower and leave the locker rooms with all equipment prior to beginning the tailgate with family and friends. 4. Absolutely no indoor tailgating opportunities are available regardless of weather conditions for both home and away teams. Please plan your tailgate accordingly. (Link to Weather.com) 5. All tailgates are only permitted for up to 90 minutes after competition is complete.
John M Reeves Athletic Complex: Men's and Women's Soccer The American University Men's Soccer Team pre and post game tailgate location is designated in the gazebo adjacent to Reeves Field. Tailgaters must unload on the access road between Bender Arena and the tennis courts, and then park their vehicle in a valid parking spot. (Campus Map) The American University Women's Soccer Team pre and post game tailgate location is designated in the gazebo adjacent to Reeves Field. A second option is the Rockwood Picnic Area. For permission to use this area, a member of the Women's Soccer staff will need to schedule the Rockwood Picnic Area with University Event Scheduling. If tailgating in the gazebo area, tailgaters must unload on the access road between Bender Arena and the tennis courts, and then park their vehicle in a valid parking spot. (Campus Map) Visiting Men's and Women's Soccer teams pre and post game tailgating is designated for the Southwest Corner of Reeves Field. All activities must be kept on the track or on the grass in the spectator area. Absolutely no one will be allowed on Reeves after competition has been completed. In order to unload, please unload on the road between Bender arena and the tennis courts. After each vehicle is unloaded, immediately move the vehicle to a valid parking spot. (Campus Map) 1.
