As 2009 comes to a close, we reflect back on what a great year it has been to be an Eagle. To commemorate the close of the calendar year, we want loyal American University Athletics fans and supporters to decide on the best moment from 2009. The following is our list of the best 25 moments of 2009. CLICK HERE to vote for your favorite three! Voting closes on Monday, January 4th. Later that week, we will reveal the top 10 events of the 2009 year based on your votes. Here are our top 25 moments of 2009, listed in chronological order:

 
Record-Crowd of 1,177 Fans Watch Women's Basketball Defeat Lehigh to Tie for First Place in Patriot League (February 7, 2009)
Senior guard Talicia Jackson set a new school record for career three-pointers as the American University women's basketball team defeated Lehigh 65-56 to tie for first place in the Patriot League in front of a Bender Arena women's basketball record-crowd of 1,177 fans.
   
  Swimming & Diving Earns Three All-Patriot League Honors (February 27, 2009)
Three members of the American University swimming and diving teams were named to the All-Patriot League team after their performances at last weekend's Patriot League championships. Sophomore Dorothy Isaacs and freshman Alexandra Wessel were named to the women's team while Matt Pelletier earned the honor on the men's side.
 
Men's Basketball Team Wins 2009 Patriot League Championship (March 13, 2009)
The American University men's basketball team won the 2009 Patriot League Tournament Championship on Friday, punching a ticket to the team's second straight NCAA Tournament. AU defeated Holy Cross by a score of 73-57 in front of a standing-room only crowd of 3,123 fans inside Bender Arena to claim their second PL Tournament title in as many years.

 

   
 
Women's Basketball Receives WNIT Bid; Will Make Back-to-Back Postseason Appearances for First Time in Program History (March 16, 2009)
The American University women's basketball team has earned a bid to the upcoming WNIT Tournament. American will be making its second consecutive postseason appearance. This marks the first time in program history that AU has earned postseason bids in back-to-back years.
   
    Borshoff Takes Seventh, Cannon Eighth at 2009 NCAA Wrestling Championships (March 20, 2009)
All-American Kyle Borshoff took seventh place at the 2009 NCAA Wrestling Championships with an impressive 9-1 major decision victory Saturday morning at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo. Fellow All-American Mike Cannon fell in his final match of the weekend, 13-3, to take eighth place and becomes AU's second two-time All-American.

Three Eagles Named to All-PL Women's Lacrosse Teams (April 21, 2009)
Senior Leslie Fischer, Junior Amanda Makoid and Junior Alyssa Romano were each named to the All-Patriot League Women's Lacrosse Second Team, conference officials announced Tuesday. This is the first all-league selection for each.
   
 
AU Lacrosse Sports New Haircuts for Locks of Love (May 7, 2009)
Five members of the American University women's lacrosse team cut more than 10 inches off their hair on Wednesday in support of Locks of Love, a charitable organization which provides hairpieces to children suffering from medical hair loss.
   
   
AU Wrestling: Champions of the Classroom (June 5, 2009)
For the second year in a row, the American University wrestling team has attained the highest GPA of all Div. I wrestling programs and has been crowned the National Wrestling Association's Champions of the Classroom.
 
Jeff Jones Completes Trip to Persian Gulf with 'Operation Hoop Talk' (June 11, 2009)
Head Men's Basketball Coach Jeff Jones completed his second tour of the Persian Gulf with the United Service Organizations, this time as a member of "Operation Hoop Talk: Talking Hoops with the Troops," a nine-day goodwill initiative.
   
 
Watch Video, View Photos from Record-Setting 19th Annual Eagles Club Golf Outing (June 15, 2009)
The American University Department of Athletics and Recreation hosted its 19th annual Eagles Club Golf Classic on Monday, June 8, at the Bretton Woods Country Club in Germantown, Md. Over 130 AU alums, donors and supporters participated in the golf scramble, helping to make this year's fundraiser a record-setting event that generated over $28,000.
   
   
Men's Swimming and Diving Team Tops Nation in GPA; Women's Squad Places 14th (July 8, 2009)
The American University men's swimming and diving team posted a 3.54 GPA in the spring semester, the highest team grade-point average of all Division I swimming and diving programs, the Collegiate Swim Coaches Association of American (CSCAA) announced. The women's program placed 14th in the nation with a 3.44 GPA. Based on their GPAs, both teams were named CSCAA Scholar-Athlete Teams for the 29th consecutive semester.
  1,813 Fans Set D.C. Volleyball Attendance Record in American's Bender Blue Out (August 29, 2009)
The American University volleyball team set a new Washington, D.C., collegiate volleyball attendance record Saturday night as 1,813 fans packed Bender Arena in the team's third annual Bender Blue Out match.
   
 
Shannon's Two Goals Lifts Men's Soccer 2-1 Over No. 19 George Mason; AU Wins D.C. College Cup (September 5, 2009)
Junior Daniel Shannon scored two goals on Saturday night to lead the American University men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over No. 19 George Mason. This victory, combined with American's 2-0 win over George Washington on Wednesday night, gives the Eagles their fifth D.C. College Cup title in the nine-year history of the tournament.
   
 
Athletics Launches New Look AUeagles.com (September 9, 2009)
The American University Department of Athletics is proud to announce the redesign and relaunch of AUeagles.com. The new AUeagles.com, which was redesigned in partnership with PrestoSports, will transform the way Eagles' fans follow their favorite student-athletes and teams. AUeagles.com will continue to provide in-depth coverage of AU Athletics with a new and improved Web site that includes enhanced pages, features, videos and much more.
   
Volleyball Coach Goldberg Becomes Newest Member of 500 Win Club (September 12, 2009)
American University's Barry Goldberg recorded his 500th career win Saturday afternoon as the Eagles defeated NJIT, 3-1, in the team's second match of the American Volleyball Classic. Goldberg is the 25th active coach and 43rd all-time to reach the 500 win milestone.
 
USA Basketball at American - Showcase Event at Bender Arena (October 10, 2009)
American University's Bender Arena hosted the USA Basketball Women's National Team for a six-day domestic training camp. Connecticut Head Coach Geno Auriemma led the squad, which featured a host of former collegiate All-Americans and current WNBA stars.
 
Men's Soccer Wins Double Overtime Thriller Against Lafayette to Take Sole Patriot League Lead (October 10, 2009)
The American University men's soccer team recovered from the brink of defeat to earn a thrilling, come-from-behind double overtime victory against Lafayette, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at Reeves Field. Nick Kapus scored the tying goal with under a minute left in regulation, and Mike Worden knocked home the game-winner in 2OT.
   
 
Men's Cross Country Takes Second at 2009 Patriot League Championships (October 31, 2009)
Sophomore Craig Brown and junior Colin Eustis led the American University men's cross country team to a second place finish at the 2009 Patriot League Cross Country Championships on Saturday in Hamilton, N.Y. Brown and Eustis each earned First Team All-Patriot League honors with their performances, placing fourth and sixth, respectively.
   
 
Women's Soccer Rolls 3-0 Over Navy in Regular Season Finale to Clinch No. 2 Seed in PL Tournament (October 31, 2009)
After playing a scoreless opening half, the American University women's soccer team caught fire with three second-half goals to come away with an impressive 3-0 victory on Saturday afternoon at Reeves Field. Senior Kelsey Brasher led the Eagles with a goal and an assist on a day where American's seven seniors were honored prior to the match.
   
 
Klima, Kurcova Selected to 41st American University Athletics Hall of Fame Class (November 4, 2009)
The American University Department of Athletics and Recreation will honor the athletics achievements of two alumni student-athletes, women's basketball's Mary Klima, '98, and volleyball's Vendula Kurcova, '99, with induction into the Stafford H. "Pop" Cassell Hall of Fame. The 41st Hall of Fame class will be inducted on Saturday, February 6, 2010.
   
 
Cross Country's Wicklund Named Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year (November 5, 2009)
Senior Greta Wicklund has been named the 2009 Patriot League Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year, conference officials announced Thursday. Wicklund, a 2009 First Team All-Patriot League selection, is the third American student-athlete to earn the honor.
   
 
Field Hockey Wins Seventh Straight Patriot League Title (November 7, 2009)
The American University field hockey team captured its seventh consecutive Patriot League Tournament Championship on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Lafayette at Jacobs Field. Junior Christine Fingerhuth scored the game-winning goal in the 35th minute and sophomore Melissa Casale added a second for good measure in the 43rd minute.
   
   
Engel, Bucciero Receive PL Women's Soccer Major Awards; Four Named to All-League Teams (November 11, 2009)
Junior defender Friederike Engel and Head Coach David Bucciero have been named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively. Additionally, Engel and senior Kelsey Brasher were honored with All-Patriot League First Team recognition, while senior Erin Koch and junior Brooke Sheppard were named to the conference's Second Team.
 
Field Hockey's De Wiljes Named Second Team All-America (November 25, 2009)
Senior Defender Anne-Meike de Wiljes has been named to the 2009 Longstreth / NFHCA Division I All-America Second Team, association officials announced on Monday.
