Aug. 24, 2005

WASHINGTON - American University was ranked 37th among NCAA Division I schools in the National Collegiate Scouting Association's 2005 Collegiate Power Rankings, NCSA officials announced Wednesday.

The rankings, which are calculated for each school in the NCAA's Division I, II and III levels, are determined by averaging the U.S. News & World Report's annual "American's Best Colleges" rankings, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Directors' Cup rankings and the student-athlete graduation rate of each school. The Eagles were ranked 86th, 179th and 72nd, respectively, in each of the rankings.

"I'm very proud of the accomplishments of the AU Eagles," Athletic Director Dr. Joni Comstock said. "I think these rankings are a tribute to our coaches and student-athletes and the strong support we receive from the university and our friends."

AU's overall score of 112.33 tied it with the University of Denver for 37th place overall. Duke University was the overall leader, with an 8.67. American is the only Patriot League school in the rankings.
