ASK THE AD: August '07 Edition

Aug. 23, 2007
American University Director of Athletics and Recreation Keith Gill answers fans' questions approximately once per month on AUEagles.com. Below are questions from July and August, 2007.
QUESTION: How do you plan to draw athletics alumni back to the programs and make them feel welcome?
Keith Gill: The alumni that I have met and are currently engaged have shown tremendous support, so I would encourage more to get back in touch. Alumni participation is a reciprocal relationship that not only benefits our student-athletes, but provides opportunities for alumni to network and develop sustained pride and enjoyment through their association with our athletics programs. Alumni are always welcome back to our events. We will continue to have games and activities that specifically honor alumni and encourage them to return to campus. We will communicate through regular updates and provide information about our students and their successes. I will take every opportunity to meet alumni and let them know all of the wonderful things that we are doing at AU. Alumni are critical to our success and we cannot reach our full potential without substantial participation from our alums. Hopefully by engaging our alumni and communicating with them regularly, they will continue to have a connection to our athletics department and be willing to support us in our quest for comprehensive excellence.
Q: What excites you about the upcoming academic year?
KG:It will be great to have all of the our students back on campus. I cannot wait to meet each of them and watch them compete. It will be very exciting to have the opportunity to cheer for our teams and the student-athletes and coaches that comprise them.
