AU Volleyball Set to Host Inaugural "Bender Blue Out" This Saturday

Aug. 22, 2007
WASHINGTON - AU Volleyball's inaugural "Bender Blue Out" will take place this Saturday, August 25, at 7 p.m. in Bender Arena when 2006 Patriot League Coach of the Year Barry Goldberg's team takes on cross-town rival George Washington University. Eagles fans are urged to wear blue as AU attempts to break the record for the largest crowd ever at a women's collegiate volleyball match in Washington, D.C. history.
The match, sponsored by McDonald's of American University and Van Ness, will be the night-cap of four contests involving local area schools George Mason, George Washington and Georgetown in Bender Arena. "We are excited to host these three great D.C. teams and are looking forward to beginning our 2007 season on the right foot in front of a great crowd" said Head Coach Barry Goldberg. "DC area bragging rights are on the line."
The event is part of AU's "Welcome Week" calendar and kicks off the fall sports season uniting students, faculty and staff of the campus community. Additionally, several volleyball teams and clubs of all ages from around the D.C., metro area plan to be in attendance.
Great give-aways and promotions are planned for the night, particularly for AU Blue Crew members who will be able to receive smoothies from Robek's of Tenleytown as well as other great prizes from AU Athletics' "Team AU" sponsors. The first 1,000 Blue Crew attendees on Saturday night will receive free stadium cups courtesy of game sponsor McDonald's and will also be able to pick up their Blue Crew t-shirts and ID cards for use throughout the year.
Show your support for AU Athletics, enjoy great gifts and be a part of history as the Eagles volleyball squad hosts its inaugural "Bender Blue Out" this Saturday, August 25, at 7 p.m.
