Former AU Student-Athlete Christina Wright Jumpstarts her Career with an Internship with the NCAA

Aug. 19, 2007
WASHINGTON - Former American University student-athlete Christina Wright has been selected as a member of the 2007-08 NCAA intern class, where her journey will be followed by the NCAA and featured on its website monthly.
Wright, a 2007 graduate who earned her B.A. in public communication, was a four-year letterwinner on the indoor and outdoor women's track team. She currently holds the record in indoor and outdoor shot put and is ranked second on the all-time career bests' list for discus.
While a student-athlete at American, Wright was a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative (SAAC), acting as the school's SAAC representative to the Patriot League. In her final year as an Eagle, she received the Stafford H. Cassell student achievement award and earned the female scholar-athlete award. During her career at AU, Wright interned with the athletic department.
During her internship with the NCAA, Wright's focal point will be on diversity and inclusion. The NCAA operates a variety of programs aimed at enhancing and encouraging diversity and inclusion throughout intercollegiate athletics. Each curriculum offers a multitude of resources to help the membership build a culture that embraces the skills and talents of all student-athletes, coaches, administrators and officials. Wright is also still working with American University and its present SAAC members on the 2007-08 team cup.
Upon completion of her internship, Wright plans to attend graduate school and continue her career in intercollegiate athletics.
