Former American University swimmer, AU alum and current AU Board of Trustees member Charlie Lydecker was recently featured in an article in the Daytona Beach News-Journal about his dedication and his training for the upcoming National Lifeguard Championships.

ORMOND BEACH -- The birds weren't even up yet, but Charlie Lydecker was.
Sunrise was still an hour off when he jumped into the Ormond Beach YMCA pool. Swimming is more than daily exercise for the 44-year-old insurance agency executive and married father of three.
It's a way of life.
The National Lifeguard Championships in Myrtle Beach, S.C., begins Thursday, a little more than a month after Lydecker won the 1.5-mile swim portion of the 27th Annual Escape From the Rock Triathlon at Alcatraz in San Francisco.
