AU Athletics Looking for Help from its Alums

July 26, 2007
WASHINGTON - The American University Department of Athletics and Recreation and its Office of Athletic Communications are looking for help from former Eagles in rebuilding the school's athletics archives.
In light of American University wrestler Josh Glenn's (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) recent National Championship in the 197 lbs. weight class, AU's Athletic Communications went to work researching Glenn's feat in regards to its historical significance. The department discovered three more individual National Champions, in addition to Glenn and diver Ray Crowe, who won the 1966 College Division title. "As we celebrated Josh Glenn's victory and All-American status earlier this year, our Athletic Communications department diligently researched its historical significance. This has resulted in the confirmation of three additional individual national championships won by American University student-athletes. We are pleased to record Josh as our fifth National Champion, not the second, as previously reported," Director of Athletics and Recreation Keith Gill said.
Over the course of time, many moves, turnover, age and degradation have compromised the department's archives. However, the current Athletic Communications staff is working hard to build up its archival information through research and alumni help. Alums with confirmable information on past teams, records, All-Americans, photos, etc., can contact the Office of Athletic Communications by clicking here.
"We're working hard to rebuild our archives," Assistant Athletics Director for Communications Anthony Wilson said. "With help from our alumni, our archives will accurately reflect the rich tradition of AU Athletics."
"These honors are truly significant, deserving of a special place in our all-time records and shed new light on the great tradition of AU Athletics," Gill said.
