American University Athletics Names April Raynovich Assistant Director of Athletic Communications

WASHINGTON - American University hired April Raynovich as the assistant director of athletic communications, the Director of Athletics and Recreation announced Monday.

Raynovich, who spent six months at the University at Albany as a media relations assistant prior to her appointment at American, served as the primary contact for women's soccer and the secondary contact for volleyball and women's basketball.

Previously, Raynovich spent a year at Hartwick College as the assistant sports information director, where she was the primary contact for the Division I men's soccer program as well as women's soccer, field hockey, women's basketball and men's lacrosse teams at the Division III level.

A 2006 graduate of Grand Valley State University, Raynovich holds a Bachelor's Degree in communications. She served as sports editor of the Grand Valley student newspaper, The Lanthorn, in 2005 and wrote for the independent Grand Valley football website, gvfootball.com, during the Lakers' 2006 run to the national championship.

Raynovich, a Pittsburgh native, played four years of varsity college soccer, two at Hillsdale College and two at Grand Valley State. In her two years at GVSU, the Lakers made consecutive appearances in the NCAA tournament.
