WASHINGTON – Josephine Harrington was promoted to deputy director of athletics in one of a number of staff promotions announced Wednesday by American University Director of Athletics and Recreation Dr. Billy Walker.
"I'm extremely happy to announce Josephine Harrington as our Deputy Director of Athletics," said Walker. "Josephine has been a member of our department for 10 years and has taken on ever-expanding responsibilities throughout her tenure. She's a visionary athletic administrator who is highly respected in our department and across campus. She will continue to make us better."
Since 2008, Harrington has been responsible for the business and financial operations for the athletics department, as well as serving as the sport supervisor for women's soccer. She will now add supervisory and advisory responsibilities with senior staff to her duties. She will also serve as the chief operating officer for the department.
She took a lead role in the creation of the athletic department strategic plan and assisted in the formulation of the mission and long-term goals of the department.
"I would like to thank Billy Walker for this incredible opportunity," said Harrington. "It has been a true privilege to work in the American University Athletic Department for the last 10 years and I'm honored and excited to take on this new leadership role. Our department is a unique place in which each individual truly understands the mission and is dedicated to serving our student-athletes and coaches.
"I look forward to continuing my work to support this mission alongside a wonderful group of coaches and staff members. This is an exciting time for AU Athletics and I'm so glad to be a part of it."
She also worked in the business offices at Georgetown and Fordham, and was a marketing assistant at Delaware. Harrington earned a bachelor's in marketing from Maryland in 2003 and a MBA from Fordham in 2007.

She is tasked with maintaining a master schedule for the athletics department for administrative and organizational purposes.
In addition to being the main communications contact for the Eagles' soccer and men's basketball programs, Guerriero has coordinated AU's new initiatives in multimedia creation and is the executive producer of the "Hoop Talk" coaches show.
