WASHINGTON – Jacobs Complex, home to the American University field hockey and women's lacrosse programs, will have a new look for the 2018-19 seasons as renovations are underway to enhance both the playing surface and overall fan experience.

At the core of these renovations is an upgrade to the existing turf, which had been in place since the complex opened in 2005. The brand-new AstroTurf® 12 synthetic turf will be a state-of-the-art surface of knitted nylon designed for uniformity, consistent footing, durability and water absorption. The field, which will be stadium green with white markings for field hockey and yellow for lacrosse, will feature the American University blue as an outline and the AU logo behind the spectator stands.

The turf will also extend across the softball field with white lines and brown markings for the three bases, home plate, and the pitcher's mound.

A new Daktronics video board will complete the Jacobs Complex renovations, featuring an LED video display for in-game graphics content. The board, measuring 22-feet tall and 18-feet wide, will also add a penalty time panel and space for sponsorship content.

These developments are a prelude to a momentous season for the AU field hockey program, as head coach Steve Jennings prepares to enter his 20th season at the helm of the Eagles. One of the most successful coaches in American University history, Jennings has led the team to 10 Patriot League titles and 10 berths into the NCAA Tournament, including two Elite Eight appearances.

The academic successes of the program have been equally as impressive under Jennings' guidance, with 15 consecutive NFHCA Division I Academic Team Awards, including 11 years ranked among the top-five team GPA's in the country.
