Eustis and Wright Named American University Student-Athletes of the Week presented by GEICO

Track and field’s Colin Eustis and Zach Wright have been named the American University Student-Athletes of the Week presented by GEICO after each captured an individual title over the weekend at the 2010 Patriot League Track and Field Championships.

Eustis cruised to victory in the 10,000 meter run, crossing the line in a time of 31:47.88 and besting the rest of the field by nearly 10 seconds. The junior had entered the meet unseeded in the 10,000 but easily outdueled Lehigh's Stephen Sample, the top seed, who finished second in 31:57.24. Eustis's individual title is the first of his career and the third for the Eagles in the 10,000 meter run since joining the Patriot League prior to the 2001-02 season.

Wright captured the high jump title, breezing through the early rounds of the event by clearing the opening two heights on his first attempt. The sophomore then also cleared a height of 1.99 meters on his first attempt, matching the school record he already owned. Wright was unable to clear his next height of 2.04 meters but had already locked up the victory. His win marks the program's first Patriot League championship in a field event.

Both Eustis and Wright were named to the All-Patriot League First Team for their performances, marking the third All-Patriot League selection for Eustis and first for Wright.
