American University Eagles Spirit

The American University Spirit Program consists of two cheer squads (co-ed and all-girl stunting), an all female dance team, and a mascot. Each performs at all home men's and women's basketball games and engages in philanthropic events throughout the community.

** Tryouts for the 2009-2010 AU Spirit Program will be held in Bender Arena on Friday, August 28th from 6-8pm, Saturday, August 29th from 10am-1pm, and Sunday, August 30th from 12-3pm. In order to be considered for the team, interested dancers and cheerleaders must attend all tryout sessions. All interested members must contact the Spirit Program to register for tryouts and get important information. For more information on tryouts and tryout requirements, please contact the Spirit Program at spirit@american.edu.

The AU Cheer and Dance Teams practice each Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday evening for three hours. In addition, each team member is expected to complete detailed workouts on his/her own time. Each team member is required to raise between $300 and $500 in donations each year to support the AU Spirit Program.

In April, both teams competed in the National Cheerleading Association (NCA) and National Dance Alliance (NDA) Collegiate National Championships. To read more about how the teams did and read posts from team members, visit our blog at auspirit.blogspot.com.
