WASHINGTON- The American University Field Hockey players had a special opportunity to invite professors who have positively impacted their lives as student-athletes to watch them play on Oct. 1 against Longwood. In partnership with AU Athletics marketing, the Student-Athlete Support Program (SASP) featured the Very Important Professors (VIP) game to increase the student/professor bond outside of the classroom.

The team put on a show for their professors with a thrilling 3-2 victory in overtime. Professor Scott Talan from AU’s School of Communication was invited to the game by junior goal keeper Maura Jacobs.

“Maura nominated me and I’m honored she did,” said Talon.

Talon had the opportunity to watch Jacobs make five saves during the game, two in the final minutes that proved to be critical in AU’s victory over Longwood.

Kogod School of Business Professor Mike Carberry came out to the game to support senior midfielder Anne Waverly Spencer as well as seniors Katie and Samantha McCormick.

“I can’t believe the gals stamina to keep it up on this enormous field,” said Carberry. “The gals did a great job. I appreciate them bringing me here and I enjoyed it tremendously.”
